That sounds a lot like this guy I've been reading lately - Anthony DeMello. He is deceased, but while living he was a Jesuit priest who decided to embrace Eastern thought. I guess he wasn't very popular in Rome.

He talks about how in order to touch reality you have to break through your conventions and habits - isolate them and inspect them until you discard them. In his books he says over and over how wonderful it is to be the fool in any situation. You are free to act from your actual thoughts, then.
